Abstract

North-East Indian history is shrouded with complex intricacies and is almost forgotten by the rest of the world. North-East India is also one of the least developed areas in India and only contributes around 2.5% to the National Gross Domestic Product. Within this isolated region lies a dearth of traditions, systems, and injustices, hindering the development and emancipation of its people, especially its women. North-East Indian women are victims of the government, the militia, and the local men around them. They also makeup a very small percentage of the primary workforce in India and are almost invisible in local and national decision-making bodies. This paper focuses on Marxist-feminism as a lens to analyse mainstream Indian democracy, ethnic terrorism, and separatism and advocate for women’s rights. It also proposes a range of possible Marxist-feminist policies that can be applied in this region to guarantee women equal rights and opportunities while simultaneously championing socio-economic development. By bringing about substantial changes in the education system, agricultural practices, military control, masculinist terror groups, foreign influence, resource distribution, and work opportunities, men and women in this region can both prosper and advance. Thus, Marxist-feminism can serve as a crusader framework for the overall development of this region and women’s progress.
